Getting to Santiago

Santiago de Compostela is the administrative, social and commercial capital of Galicia (Spain's northern and westernmost region); declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO thanks to its multicultural nature and as the final destination of a thousand-year-old pilgrim route: the Way of St. James. The traveler can get here by airplane, train, or road.

By air

Santiago de Compostela International Lavacolla Airport (code SCQ) connects the city with direct flights from the main Spanish cities (Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Tenerife, Valencia), as well as other European airports (Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Milano, Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Istanbul, Brussels, Rome). The airport is 10 km away from the downtown. There is a shuttle bus service between Lavacolla and the downtown every 30 min. from 6:45 AM to 12:45 AM (single 3.00; return 5.00). A taxi fare to/from the airport to/from the downtown costs approx. 21.

The other two Galician airports, A Coruña-Alvedro and Vigo-Peinador, are located at 60 and 80 km away from Santiago. Train and car rental are recommended to reach Santiago from there.
